Importance of Routine Dental Care
Even if you are extremely diligent and thorough with your oral hygiene routine, it is still necessary to visit our office for an oral hygiene examination and cleaning. Even if you brush multiple times a day and use dental floss daily, bacteria still linger in the mouth and can become problematic over time. Some patients, due to their family history, are prone to experiencing certain complications and problems with their oral health. For all of these reasons, it is important that our patients visit our office every 4 to 6 months to receive an examination and cleaning.
During routine visits, we check your mouth and look for any signs of decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other complications with your oral health. We also thoroughly clean your teeth and remove any signs of plaque on tooth surfaces and along the gum line.
Our pediatric and teenage patients should be visiting our office every six months as well, especially if they are currently receiving orthodontic treatment. Seeing an orthodontist is not the same as receiving an oral hygiene examination. In fact, many patients experience more decay and dental problems during orthodontic treatment and immediately afterward. It is extremely important that we continue to monitor and properly clean your teeth and gums while you are receiving orthodontic treatment, regardless of whether you wear clear aligners or traditional metal braces.
If you or a loved one needs dental care, we encourage you to contact our office located in Burton, MI to schedule an appointment. We would love to see you before school starts. We look forward to seeing you soon!
