Bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure used to repair chipped, cracked or discolored teeth. It can also be used to change the shape of a tooth – making them longer or bigger to fill in spaces between teeth. The dentist uses a tooth-colored resin, a strong plastic material, to repair the tooth in order to restore its function and appearance.

The dentist will first choose a shade of resin that matches the rest of your teeth. Next, the tooth’s surface will be lightly roughened and a conditioning liquid is applied so that the resin will bond to your tooth. The dentist will then apply the resin to the tooth and mold it to a desired shape. A light is then used to help harden the resin material. At this time, the dentist will trim, shape and polish the bonded tooth. The entire process typically takes an hour to complete.

One of the main benefits of dental bonding is that it’s a simple procedure that can help restore your tooth quickly and without pain. There is no need to remove enamel and anesthesia is not necessary for this treatment. It is also one of the less expensive cosmetic dentistry treatments but can effectively restore the look and function of your tooth.

Bonded teeth do not require special care. You can brush and floss them as you do your natural teeth. With proper care, they can last up to 10 years.
