Small Improvements Make A Big Difference
Does a chipped or cracked tooth keep you from smiling? Would you like to brighten your discolored teeth? Imperfections like these can be improved with a simple procedure called dental bonding. A common cosmetic procedure, dental bonding involves applying tooth-colored resin to the tooth to repair conditions such as chips, fractures or discoloration.
While veneers or crowns are used for more obvious dental issues, dental bonding can hide those small imperfections that make a big difference in your smile. What’s more, the process is quick and painless and can be done in one visit.
Benefits of Dental Bonding
Besides providing a noticeable improvement to the appearance of your teeth, the benefits of dental bonding also include:
- The composite resin used in dental bonding can help protect your teeth from decay and strengthen the tooth.
- When teeth whitening can’t help your tooth discoloration, dental bonding can be applied as a thin layer to brighten the color of your teeth.
- Dental bonding contributes to improving small misalignments by straightening and balancing the tooth to make it more proportionate.
The dental bonding process typically takes about an hour to complete. There’s no preparation needed, and anesthesia or numbing agents are usually not necessary. First, the dentist will match the color of the resin to the color of your natural teeth so that the bonding will blend in nicely. Then, the tooth surface is roughened with a conditioning liquid, which makes the resin stick to the tooth. The resin is then applied to the tooth and the dentist will shape it to a desired look. It is then hardened using a UV light.
