Ways to Relax Before Your Appointment
We often hear from patients that they are experiencing some nerves when they visit our office. The problem arises when patients are so fearful they avoid visiting our office for months if not years. When routine appointments and dental treatment is postponed or delayed, it increases the likelihood of dental issues. We want to share some helpful tips that might help you relax before your appointment:
Schedule Appointments Wisely
We recommend scheduling your appointment for a time of day that you feel most relaxed. We don’t suggest scheduling your appointment after a long day of work if possible. A morning appointment might work better.
Avoid Caffeine and Sugar
Caffeine and sugar act as stimulants and can affect the nervous system, increasing blood pressure and causing some people to have the feeling of a racing heart or nervousness. We recommend eating a healthy meal and drinking plenty of water before your appointment.
We always want our patients to be honest with us. If you experience nerves or anxiety before visiting the dentist, share your feelings with our team. We can discuss ways to make you feel more comfortable during your appointment. We also recommend bringing headphones and listening to your favorite music, podcast, or audiobook to help pass the time and drown out the sounds of the office.
If you have postponed your dental care due to nerves, we would love to hear from you. Our team wants to help make you feel comfortable while under our care. If you are interested in making an appointment don’t hesitate to call our office located in Burton, MI to schedule your visit.
