Importance Of Following Treatment Directions
Do you have a procedure scheduled in our office in the near future? We offer a number of treatment options for our patients to restore their oral health as well as improve the function and appearance of their teeth. We know that, many times, patients have some nervous feelings about visiting our office for a procedure, and they are so focused on the treatment itself that they don’t really think about what needs to be done to prepare for treatment and the recovery after treatment is completed. While the procedure is extremely important and usually necessary, following our directions, before and after treatment, is imperative to ensure that results are as expected.
Before Treatment
Before any dental treatment, is it important to notify our office of any changes to your medical history. This includes any recent medical diagnosis and additions or changes to any medications, even the dosage. There are a number of medical conditions that require the use of antibiotics before any dental treatment, so we need to be sure you do not need medication before treatment. Many medications, such as blood thinners, can affect the dental procedure, and we will need to adjust or stop your dosage before treatment.
After Treatment
We will share all after-treatment instructions with you, and it is extremely important to follow them all. Proper after care helps prevent unnecessary repairs, repeated procedures, and added expenses. We want to help you avoid a dental emergency and ensure that you heal properly. One of the most important indications that applies to all procedures that use anesthetic is to be sure to avoid eating and drinking until the numbness in your mouth wears off. You can cause accidental damage to your gums, lips, tongue and cheeks if you happen to bite in the area.
