The Importance Of Caring For Your Oral Health When Sick
We can’t believe that the winter season is upon us, the colder weather has arrived, and the new year is just around the corner. We know that our patients are busy preparing for the upcoming holiday season, and we would hate for anyone to fall ill during this time of year. Unfortunately, during these winter months, illnesses can easily make their way through families.
Ways to Care for Your Oral Health When You’re Sick
We want to share some tips to help you and your family maintain your oral health even when you are under the weather:
Don’t Forget to Clean Your Teeth
We know that when you are under the weather the last thing you are thinking about is your oral health. Even when you aren’t feeling your best, it is important to clean your teeth, especially if you are vomiting or drinking sugary beverages. We would hate for you to experience tooth decay from being sick.
Be Mindful of Sugar
It is common to drink sports drinks and fruit juices when you aren’t feeling well. Unfortunately, these drinks are full of sugar and can be extremely harmful to your oral health. If you are using cough drops, be sure to choose a sugar-free option.
Replace Your Toothbrush
After you are sick, it is extremely important that you replace your toothbrush. Harmful bacteria can linger on the brush and lead to reinfection.
We kindly ask that you reschedule your appointment if you are feeling under the weather. If you are feeling healthy and are concerned about the state of your oral health, or it has been quite a long time since your last visit, we encourage you to call our office located in Burton, MI to schedule an appointment. We wish you and your loved ones health and wellness during the holiday season and into the new year.
