Tooth loss can negatively impact your day-to-day routine. Whether it causes difficulty with chewing food or keeps you from speaking clearly, it’s not something you can ignore. Many people who have missing teeth avoid situations where they have to show their teeth such as smiling in public or speaking at social events. Dentures may be a solution, but some people want the set-it-and-forget-it solution that dental implants can provide. Not only are dental implants a convenient and durable solution for tooth loss, they look and feel just like your natural teeth — you’ll hardly notice the difference.
The Dental Implant Advantage
Dental implants can give you the confidence to eat, talk and smile without concern. In addition to being a long-lasting treatment (with proper care they can last decades, if not a lifetime), the benefits of implants include:
- Ability to speak clearly
- Opportunity to enjoy a variety of foods
- No need for extra care, implants require daily brushing and flossing and regular checkups
- Longer-lasting than other restoration treatments
- Help maintain your dental health
What to Expect
A dental implant is a titanium post surgically implanted into the jaw that bonds with the natural bone to create a strong support. An abutment connects the implant to the replacement tooth, or crown, which is custom-made and matches the color of your natural teeth.
In order to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for implants, we conduct an examination to make sure your jawbone is strong enough to support an implant. If we move forward, the first step of the process is to surgically place the implant. The area will need time to heal, which can take around 8 weeks.
After the area is healed, an abutment will be placed on the implant to support the replacement crown. The crown is sent to a lab to be fabricated. Once it is returned, we place the crown on the abutment and the treatment is complete.
