What to Expect When You Haven’t Been to the Dentist in a While
Has it been longer than you planned since your last dental visit? Maybe six months somehow became a year. Then life got busy, another year slipped by, and eventually scheduling an appointment felt slightly awkward because you knew it had been a while.
First, you’re definitely not the only person this has happened to. Second, you don’t need to come in with an explanation prepared. We’re much more interested in where your oral health is today and how we can help you move forward.
We’ll Start by Catching Up
A lot can change when we haven’t seen you for a while, and we don’t just mean your teeth. We’ll want to know how you’ve been, whether your health or medications have changed, and whether anything about your mouth has been bothering you. Maybe everything feels perfectly fine, or perhaps there’s something you’ve been meaning to ask us about for months.
This is also your opportunity to tell us if you’re feeling nervous about being back. Comfort is a big part of who we are, and our team wants your visit to feel informative, welcoming, and centered around your individual needs.
Then We’ll See How Everything Is Doing
If it’s been a while, you may be wondering whether we’ll discover a long list of problems. Maybe we will find something that needs attention. Maybe we won’t. Either way, worrying about what we might find doesn’t give us any useful information, but taking a look does.
Depending on your individual needs, your visit may include an examination, professional cleaning, and appropriate X-rays. Regular visits let us evaluate your oral health and identify concerns, such as tooth decay, early, while preventive care helps you maintain healthy teeth and gums.
If Something Needs Attention, We’ll Talk About It
Returning after an extended break doesn’t automatically mean you’re headed for extensive dental treatment. If we do see something that needs attention, we can explain what we’re seeing and discuss the appropriate next steps. Today’s Dental Comfort offers comprehensive care, from preventive services through restorative, cosmetic, and implant dentistry, with an emphasis on listening, education, and personalized treatment planning. You don’t need to know what you need when you arrive. That’s what the appointment is for.
There’s No Need to “Get Ready” for Us
Please don’t spend the week before your appointment trying to make up for several months of inconsistent flossing. Just stick to your normal oral hygiene routine, and come see us as you are. We would much rather meet you where you are than have you keep postponing an appointment because you feel embarrassed about how much time has passed.
The Best Appointment Is the One You Come Back For
People fall out of an oral hygiene routine for all sorts of reasons. Life gets busy, schedules change, priorities compete for attention, and sometimes dental anxiety makes that first appointment back particularly difficult.
Whatever your reason, we’re not keeping score. Once you walk through the door, the gap between appointments is already behind you. We’ll catch up, see how your smile is doing, and discuss what’s next. Before you know it, you’re no longer someone who hasn’t been to the dentist in a while. You’re simply back.
If it has been longer than you intended since your last visit, schedule an appointment with our offices located in Burton or Fenton, MI. We’ll be happy to see you, welcome you back, and help you feel comfortable getting your dental care back on track.
